Walk away from any contractor who quotes tonnage based on square footage alone. A real calculation considers occupancy, lighting load, IT equipment, glazing area and orientation, insulation, ventilation rates, and altitude.
Step 2 — Pick the right system topology
Under 5 tons total: light-commercial split or cassette units. 5–25 tons: VRF or ducted splits. 25+ tons: VRF or chilled-water with AHUs.
Indicative pricing in 2025
Light-commercial split installation: Rs 90,000–140,000 per ton turnkey. VRF system installation: Rs 180,000–280,000 per ton turnkey including refnet, controls, and commissioning.
